Baby Shower Baby Hats!

I found this craft idea at Little Birdie Secrets and immediately put it in my list of things I want to try. How cute would these be at a baby shower? And if you are intimidated about making the hats themselves, I bet you could purchase the hats and take the seams out with a seam ripper where you plan to put the ears on and then sew them back up.

More Wooden Blocks

People love homemade decorations for the different seasons. Here is a tutorial at a fabulous craft blog on how to make some really cute wooden blocks that you can place on the wall, fireplace mantel, shelf, or as part of a table centerpiece. These would be great for all different seasons and occasions. You could make them say "Joy" for Christmas or "Love" for Valentine's Day, "Baby" for a baby shower gift, or anything you can imagine. Trash to Treasure

 I love making great gifts out of things I already have!  A good friend of mine sent me this link and I love it.  With some "garbage" (There is no such thing as GARBAGE, right Krista!) and some left over scrapbook supplies, you can have a fast, easy gift.  The end project is so cute and who doesn't have old toilet paper rolls in their garbage cans.

Easy ABC Blocks

An easy gift idea that I like to do for baby showers is to give these cute little decorative wooden ABC blocks. I get them at Hobby Lobby as plain wood. When they are on sale you can get them for as little as a dollar each! I pick up a few colors of craft paint to match the nursery and paint them. Craft stores like Hobby Lobby and Roberts have a lot of great wooden gifts that only need a little paint or stain to complete. Since they are boxes with lids, you can fill them if you want to. You could put passifires,  baby booties, socks, bibs etc. inside. If you are compiling multiple gifts to put in a basket these are great because they take up a lot of room and are only around $5! And because you took the time to paint them it adds a personal touch as well.

Daddy Duty Tool Belt

Congratulations, Daddy! Here is a fun baby shower gift idea for a Daddy-to-be! Make him a Daddy Duty Tool Belt.

I found this canvas tool belt at Walmart for only $1.oo and wrote on it with fabric markers. It is filled with diapers, wipes, diaper rash cream, powder, disposable diaper sacks, a onsie, burp cloth, hand sanitizer, pacifiers, tongs, rubber gloves, a nose clip, goggles, nail clippers, thermometer, baby hair brush and a teething toy. It's a funny gift with a lot of useful baby items.

Don't forget the Dad when planning a baby shower gift. He needs as much help as he can get!

Baby Shower Flower Clip Boquet

If you are going to a baby shower and you know the Mommy-To-Be is having a girl, hair bows and flower clips will be a definite part of that baby's wardrobe! They are like shoes, you can never have too many! Plus, they are very easy to make. Brought to you from Somewhat Simple is a tutorial for putting ribbon on an alligator clip and then after you have the ribbon on the clip, simply hot glue gun a fake flower on top of the ribbon with a decorative gem or button placed in the middle (a future tutorial on this part coming). If you don't know how to make them, or don't want to make them, you can purchase decorative hair clips anywhere, even Walmart and Target. Malls tend to have a lot of boutiques that sell really cute ones as well. However, making them yourself is usually much cheaper. Once you have some hair bows, clip them to some wooden skewers, stick them in a vase and tie a ribbon around it. Here is a picture of the inspiration from Sister's Stuff:

Not only are you giving them something that is unique and thoughtful, but its something they will definitely use, and you are giving them a place to store it decoratively in the baby's room! Two gifts in one!

Everything is relative

Familyfun.go.com is a great source for coming up with gift ideas. It has lots of ideas for things that kids can make for a special gift as well. This month they have a neat feature on things to send for family members who live far away. My favorite one was "Beloved Baby Book". For this gift, you take pictures of all of your relatives, and collect them in a book, with captions like, "Grandma loves you, baby". Putting the pages in sheet protectors makes it safe for baby to look at. Another of the ideas was to take pictures of relatives and put their faces on simple stick puppets- each of these ideas helps children to recognize relatives they rarely see. I think this would be a fun gift for cousins to make for cousins that live far away... I think I see a project coming on. :)

Baby Shirt Smoothie

Here is an easy idea for your next baby shower. Make a Smoothie! All you need are smoothie cups (found at restaurant supply stores) a baby t-shirt, baby socks, and a straw. I like to make little felt strawberries to put on top to make it look special. Simply roll up the shirt and the socks, put them in the cup, and you have the cutest gift. Can't find a smoothie cup? A Personal Photo Carved Night Light

Everyone loves personalized gifts. It shows that you went the extra mile and took the time to think about them individually as opposed to giving them a gift card. I found this really neat idea at www.lightaffection.com where you can create a night light out of a picture. What a sweet gift to give to someone who just had a baby for their nursery! Take a picture of the baby or even use the picture they sent from their baby announcement to create this. Any picture can be used so you could create a wedding gift with their engagement picture or anything you can think of.

One of my favorite gift ideas is for families that are expecting a new baby. Often, the new arrival has toddler brothers or sisters that are giving mom and dad a run for their money, because they are jealous and cranky about the cute new interloper who is getting all the presents. I like to give the siblings presents, and I try to make it something to help keep them quiet while mom is busy with the new baby. This can be easy, a little tote bag with crayons and new coloring books, or a puzzle are good. But my favorite present to give is a copy of the book The Mitten by Jan Brett, and toys to go with it. The book is about animals who all crawl inside a mitten to keep warm. I like to give the book with a mitten, and little plastic animals to go with them. At Wal-mart you can get a bag of plastic animals for a dollar, and a set of stretchy mittens for 50 cents in the winter. Alternatively, you can upcycle a mitten that has lost it's mate. I like to stitch a felt heart on the back of the mitten, to make it cute. Little kids that are at the toddler stage love to put the animals in the mitten and take them out, over and over. The mitten also acts as a carrying case for them. On her website, Jan Brett has all kinds of free printables and games for older children as well.

New Baby Kit

Many people have their own version of a new baby kit.

• A Mirror - "To help you remember to take care of yourself too."
