Words to live by!!

I went to a friends house and saw this plaque sitting on her kitchen counter.
I fell in love with the saying....

This was so easy to recreate.  I plaque from a craft store, some paint, stamps or stencil letters and there you have it!  I can't wait to make one for my home!

You're tops with me!

A fun gift to give anyone is a few large potatoes (one for each member of their family) and all the toppings.  I bought some burlap and sewed up a quick bag using twine.  I bought salt and pepper shakers from the dollar store, Tabasco sauce, potato topping shakers, sour cream, a can of chili, real butter, and some velveeta cheese.  I put all this in the bag with a tag that says, "You're Tops With Me!"  You have to make sure you can give the gift to someone close to a fridge if you want to add all the toppings that need to be cold. I make up a few bags at a time and add the items that don't need refrigeration.  That way I can make a quick run to the store to add the extra items right before I give it to them.  If I know they won't have refrigeration, I just give them the bag I already have put together.  This gift is great for anyone of any age!

Trash to Treasure

I love making great gifts out of things I already have!  A good friend of mine sent me this link and I love it.  With some "garbage" (There is no such thing as GARBAGE, right Krista!) and some left over scrapbook supplies, you can have a fast, easy gift.  The end project is so cute and who doesn't have old toilet paper rolls in their garbage cans.

A couple more gift ideas for Grandparent's Day

Still looking for that perfect Grandparent's Day gift idea? I know I still am. Here's a couple ideas I found that will maybe work for you:
Here is a really cute song you could have your child sing over the phone or on a video and send to them:

In case you couldn't understand all the lyrics here they are:
Grandparents Day
(Tune - "Take me Out To The Ballgame")
Let' go see our Grandparents
Take us there for awhile.
Mommy and Daddy both need a break,
We'll play games and we'll stay up real late!!!!!!

Oh, we'd like to thank our Grandparents
For all the things that they do.
So it's time to say....................... "You're the
BEST and that WE... LOVE.... YOU"..... !!!!!!
A really fun idea if you are able to is to tell you or your significant other's parents they are going to be first time grandparents on Grandparent's Day. If you expect the reaction that this woman has you should definitely film it!

Daddy's Treasure Box

This is a really easy gift to make for Father's Day. Decorate a box to hold Daddy's "Treasures" ...all the little gifts and cards and pictures he gets from his kids. You know those presents that are too precious to throw away, but hard to find a place for? If your kids are old enough they will have a great time helping decorate it.
I mean, who can throw away a cut out heart with pom poms glued on it?
You can make one for grandparents and moms too.

Everything is relative

Familyfun.go.com is a great source for coming up with gift ideas. It has lots of ideas for things that kids can make for a special gift as well. This month they have a neat feature on things to send for family members who live far away. My favorite one was "Beloved Baby Book". For this gift, you take pictures of all of your relatives, and collect them in a book, with captions like, "Grandma loves you, baby". Putting the pages in sheet protectors makes it safe for baby to look at. Another of the ideas was to take pictures of relatives and put their faces on simple stick puppets- each of these ideas helps children to recognize relatives they rarely see. I think this would be a fun gift for cousins to make for cousins that live far away... I think I see a project coming on. :)

Grandparent's Day is coming up!

As seen at www.wellhaven.com:

A Grandparent's Legacy guided journal encourages Grandma and Grandpa to share their life stories with their grandchildren. Each page has thought-provoking questions capturing their fondest memories, wildest dreams, and greatest challenges. Written in their own words, this journal is sure to create special moments with family members. It may also shape their grandchildren's hopes and dreams.

This guided journal has a reminiscing design throughout. Meant to be completed at their own pace, it contains sections such as

  • Who was your favorite all-time teacher and why?
  • What similarities do you see in your children and grandchildren?
  • What are the things you are most glad you tried?
  • What is one of the most difficult choices you ever had to make?
  • Tell us about your first trip by plane, train or ship.

Product Info
Size: 5.25 inches wide x 8.25 inches high
Pages: 192
Other: Padded hard cover, enclosed spiral bound book

Help your mother complete the questions in the book when you visit or talk on the phone.

This gift is only 12.99 but the information you get would be priceless.

Grandparent's Day 22 Days Away

Write a letter from your children to their grandma or grandpa. Or if your children are old enough, have them do it themselves. Title it "Thanks for being my mom's mom" or "Thanks for being our dad's dad", etc. List all the reasons to be thankful for them.

Here's an example of what I did for my mom on Mother's Day this year:

Thank you for being our Mom’s Mom

Thank you for the love that you gave our mother.
Thank you for teaching our mother to be strong.
Thank you for giving our mother a childhood filled with using her imagination.
Thank you for teaching our mother the value of hard work.
Thank you for helping our mother to be grateful for all she has.
Thank you for teaching our mother about sacrifice.
Thank you for showing our mother patience.
Thank you for the many nights spent kneeling in prayer on our mother’s behalf.
Thank you for teaching our mother the importance of family dinners together.
Thank you for instilling in our mother the love of our family’s past.
Thank you for sharing with our mother your many special family traditions.
And Thank you for all your motherly advice.
All of these things have helped our mother to be the mom she is to us.

Love your little grandsons,
Taye and Grayson

I gave her this letter with a picture of her with each of my boys.

What are the reasons you are thankful for your parents or grandparents?
Now is the time to let me know.
