Thanks for helping us grow

Sorry no pix, but I saw the cutest idea over the weekend- It was a simple potted plant, with a tag that said "thanks for helping us grow". All the kids in the class had their pictures taken with their arms raised over their heads. They were printed out on cardstock on a laser printer, and each child's picture was glued to a popscicle stick and stuck into the dirt in the pot. How cute is that for a teacher!

Totally Terrific Tins!!

A good friend of mine made these cute little tins for all of her friends for Christmas this year. They fit perfectly in your purse and keep the pad of paper from getting destroyed. She bought the pads of paper, the pens, and magnets all from the dollar store and covered them with scrapbook paper. The tin and small envelopes were bought from Michael's. She covered the top of the tin with scrapbook paper and added the persons name in chipboard. I think they turned out really cute! Here are a few more tin ideas...

Thanksgiving gifts

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and I found some cute Thanksgiving gifts that you can hand out to friends or family that come for dinner or show up unexpectedly at your door.

These cute Turkey Truffles are from The Swiss Colony. I thought they would be easy to make yourself with some store bought truffles, candy corn, and tube frosting.

I made these little Thanksgiving Blessing Mixes last year. They were a big hit! I was able to make a lot of them in a short amount of time.

These are the least expensive gift I made. Who doesn't like curling up with a warm cup of cider on a cold November night? Enjoy!

Disguises for Trick-or-Treat Candy

I LOVE HALLOWEEN!!!! I don't know why...but I do! I thought I would post some fun ideas that you could use as teacher gifts or classroom gifts or just for those "Special" trick -or- treaters that come to your door! Better homes and Gardens has some great ideas! Here are just a few...

Make a Halloween Candy Box with Fangs

This fanged box may look scary, but it holds a sweet box of candy.

What You'll Need

Tracing paper
Patterns
Candy box
Red or pink card stock or construction paper
Scorer
Crafts knife
Glue gun and hotmelt adhesive
White card stock and construction paper
Red dimensional paper
Scissors

How to Make It

Draw a rectangle on tracing paper, using the diagram as a guide and your candy box for measurements.
Cut the shape from red (or pink) card stock (or construction paper).
Transfer the dashed lines from your pattern to the right side of the paper.
Lightly score the lines with a crafts knife. Fold along the scored lines. Hot-glue the shape to the candy box at the front, bottom, and back.
If desired, cover the top and short sides of the box with a piece of red paper; glue in place.
Cut teeth from white card stock (or construction paper) and glue to the rectangle ends.
Add blood to the fangs with red dimensional paint.
Finished size: Our boxed candy measures 3 3/4 (W) x 3/4 (H) x 1 3/4 (D) inches. Adapt the design to your boxed candy, enlarging or reducing the teeth pattern to fit.

My Eye Is on You

Spookify a classic lollipop for Halloween by making this easy eyeball disguise.

What You'll Need

White tissue paper
White floral wire
Colored paper
Black paper
Scissors
Glue gun and hotmelt adhesive
Red dimensional paint
Narrow red ribbon
Iris pattern

How to Make It

Cut two or three 6-inch squares of white tissue paper.
Layer the squares and then wrap them around the candy.
Wrap and secure around the base with white floral wire.
Cut the iris pattern from colored paper and the pupil from black.
Clip into the iris as shown.
Hot-glue the iris to the top of the candy. Add the pupil.
Use red dimensional paint to make the eyeball bloodshot. Let dry.
Wrap narrow red ribbon around the wire and tie in a bow.

Tombstone Territory

Candy gets a spooky place to rest in this easy craft. Cut two tombstones from gray card stock or construction paper. Cut a narrow strip of gray to fit around the outside of the candy box, piecing the strip if necessary. On the front tombstone, add "RIP" at the top and the word "open" with an arrow pointing to the bottom. See the next slide for further instructions.

Use dark gray pencils to shade the tombstone and letters. Add a silver gemstone, if desired, to the icon at the top and the middle of the arrow at the bottom. Hot-glue the gray strip around the outside of the candy box. Adhere tombstones to the front and back of the candy box, then stand up your masterpiece. The finished tombstone measures 3 1/4 x 6 inches.

Tile Coasters

I found this really great gift idea at the Trey and Lucy blog as well as Just a Girl and had to try it out myself. I had a wedding last weekend and thought it was the perfect opportunity to make these. They are handmade tile coasters, and they are a cinch! Many of the materials needed you may already have in your craft room, and if not, I was able to purchase everything for around $17.00 and that was buying more than I needed for one gift. Now if I want to make them again, it will only cost the amount of the tiles which would be about $2.00 or less!

Materials Needed:

4- 4X4 tiles from your nearest Lowes- I got a box of 9 marble tiles for $4.77 but you can get them individually for much cheaper as well, on average around 40 cents each. My tiles are very porous because I thought the ink would stick better, but found that the holes distract from the stamped image so you may want to try a smoother tile. I recommend having a practice tile to make all your design mistakes on.

A StazOn inkpad and ink cleaner. For my tile, once the ink was on, it was on and there was no cleaning it off. But if you get a tile that has been sealed, you can clean off the ink if you don't like how it turned out and redo it.
Stamp(s) to decorate the tops of the tiles with.
Felt with sticky backing for the bottoms of the tile. I was able to find a sheet of felt with a sticky back on it for a dollar.

Modge Podge and brush- this is only if your tile is unsealed so it can have a finished looked, as opposed to being chalky to the touch.

Instructions:

1. Take your stamp, press it onto the inkpad and then press it firmly onto the tile in the desired location.

2. Once the ink design is complete, attach four felt squares to the bottom of each tile.

3. If your tile is unsealed and chalky to the touch, you will want to modge podge the top and sides. This will give it a more finished look. It will brush on white but dries clear.

4. Once dry, pile the tiles on top of each other and tie a matching bow around them.

5. Add a matching tag with your message to who and from.

These are so cheap and easy to make, they would be great to keep stored away for a thank you gift, or would be great for Christmas gifts for large families.

You're tops with me!

A fun gift to give anyone is a few large potatoes (one for each member of their family) and all the toppings. I bought some burlap and sewed up a quick bag using twine. I bought salt and pepper shakers from the dollar store, Tabasco sauce, potato topping shakers, sour cream, a can of chili, real butter, and some velveeta cheese. I put all this in the bag with a tag that says, "You're Tops With Me!" You have to make sure you can give the gift to someone close to a fridge if you want to add all the toppings that need to be cold. I make up a few bags at a time and add the items that don't need refrigeration. That way I can make a quick run to the store to add the extra items right before I give it to them. If I know they won't have refrigeration, I just give them the bag I already have put together. This gift is great for anyone of any age!
