Hanging Vases filled with Votive Candles or Flowers

I have an area of my kitchen that has been a sore spot for a long time. I needed something on the wall so I bought a spur of the moment iron rod shelf with 4 hooks underneath it.

I am not a fan of hanging mugs in the kitchen, so I have been trying to find something to hang from the hooks.

I used to have hanging pictures from ribbons from the hooks, but never really liked how they turned out. I tried hot gluing some metal planters with herbs in them, but it looked silly to me in the end.

I'll admit I am a PB junkie and I like to get ideas from their site. On their homepage flashed an idea that was like "Duh! I can't believe you didn't think of something like that!"

I LOVE this! Its so simple and unique and wonderful. The mason jars are a little too country looking for my kitchen, so I used the idea of hanging glass vases and did some more research:

I love the look of clean lines and although this wouldn't fit for what I needed, I wish I had a wall to devote to just this idea. This got me thinking of hanging flowers instead of votive candles.

I really liked this next one from Origin Crafts. It has different vases so that it is a little more unique:

I ended up purchasing these and I was suprised and a little disappointed at just how small they were when they arrived. However at Walmart I was able to find another similar and slightly bigger glass jar meant for salad dressing that I used in addition to the three in this picture. I went to Hobby Lobby with their 50% off stem sale, and got me some white and blue stems to put in them. Here is the end result:

Master Bedroom Decor- Love Collage

Once upon a time I heard that your master bedroom should be a relaxing romantic getaway.  They said to put your kids pictures everywhere else in the house, but not in your bedroom. This is so that when you are there you aren't thinking about all of your other responsibilities. The idea is to just have pictures of you and your spouse or significant other.

Most of my pictures of my hubby and I are from the days of film, or not professional ones anyway. So I don't have any one that I would want to blow up and frame.

One day I happened across an old diary of mine and read several entries I wrote of when we met and were dating. I also found some old homemade Valentine's Day Cards an old notebook where we used to write little love notes to each other and leave for the other person to find. I thought it would be special to display my favorite journal entries and love notes along with our pictures of us together.

Getting my inspiration from Steph's master bedroom at Somewhat Simple, I decided to do a collage above our headboard.

(Ignore the mismatched pillow cases, let's pretend the really nice ones are in the laundry)

I bought the 22X28 frame %50 off at Hobby Lobby. The two lettered frames on each side were also %50 off.

The glass for the frame was too much so it is on the list of things to get in the future. But for now it works as is :)

I put together the collage in photoshop using all of our pictures I scanned in, and typed out the journal entries. I fit as much as I could on an 8X10 page and printed it out in black and white. I then attached all of the pages to a posterboard.

Pottery Barn Knock Off- Decorative Speckled Egg Vase Filler

It's a little hard to be excited for Easter and Spring when this is what my backyard looks like right now:

So I am doing the best to bring the spring feeling indoors! I LOVE the speckled eggs found over at Pottery Barn. They use them for all different ideas, including a vase filler, as seen here:

The only problem is if you want to purchase these babies, they won't even get shipped out until the end of April. Kinda defeats the purpose. So I had to go elsewhere. Pottery Barn wants $19-$59 for each of their hurricanes, but I got my mine at Costco- only 2 are pictured but I have 3 of them- for $15.00. That's right, ALL THREE cost a total of $15.00.

Now that's what I'm talkin' about Willis!

I got my nest and eggs at Taipan. They were a little pricey- each egg cost two dollars and they were originally meant to be hung from tree limbs. I ripped the ribbons out from them so they look more natural. I bought a nest for pretty cheap and ripped it in half to place in the bottom of both vases. I like the look of Pottery Barn's egg to nest ratio better than mine, but my budget wouldn't allow for more eggs.

So here is my I-can-have-it-right-now knock off version:

Decorative Hanging Balls

Vanessa from V and Co. has a tutorial here about how to make these adorable decorative hanging balls out of t-shirts. I love her stuff! She created them for a wedding, but how cute would they be in pink or purple or yellow in a little girl's room!

Refurbished Craft Chair Tutorial

I mentioned before how I am putting together a craft room. Currently its in an unfinished room in my basement, but to me its still my own space to create, so I am very excited. I got a desk from IKEA that I will post about later on, but first, I'll share with you my first chair remodel.

I took an old chair that we weren't using anymore:

And with a screwdriver I removed the padding section of the chair by undoing about 3 screws. It was easier than I thought it would be.

I put the padding aside and took the chair outside to paint it. I had to lightly sand the chair down first but if you have some primer spray than no sanding is required.

I got Rust-oleum spray paint because I heard thats the best. (White, satin finish).

The handle was a separate purchase but was very nice for spraying a lot of furniture. My fingers didn't cramp up at all. Following the instructions on the can, I put a few coats on of the paint (I used the entire can and should have used more for a better finish but decided it was good as is) Then I followed it up with a clear coat of polyurethane.

While waiting for the polyurethane to dry, I focused my attention on the padding section. I had previously gotten a yard of the fabric that I wanted from Hobby Lobby. (Oh Hobby Lobby, I {heart} you!)

The plan was to staple gun it to the chair padding, but I was too impatient to wait for my hubby to help me with that. So I did the next best thing. I got my glue gun. I simply hot glued the new fabric right on top of the old. I payed special attention to the corners to make them bunch as little as possible.

Then I just screwed the padding back onto the chair and voila! It's done. It took me just a few hours to do (with having to wait for the paint to dry) and it was a fairly simple project.

I plan to still reinforce the new fabric with a staple gun. But for now it will work great with my desk! Ignore the cement walls :)

I love how girly and fresh it looks. When I see it I instantly want to craft!

Words to live by!!

I went to a friends house and saw this plaque sitting on her kitchen counter.
I fell in love with the saying....

This was so easy to recreate.  I plaque from a craft store, some paint, stamps or stencil letters and there you have it!  I can't wait to make one for my home!

3 Cheap and Easy Valentine's Day Ideas

Valentine's Day is right around the corner. Whether looking for gifts for others, or cute decor ideas for your home, these ideas are all easy to make and super cheap!

Using recycled jelly and ketchup bottles, these awesome Valentine's Kiss Jars from Trey and Lucy would be great gifts for any Sweetheart in your life. Here is her tutorial. Thanks for sharing Tanya!

Pictures like this make me sad that I don't have a fireplace or a fireplace mantel to house cute little mailboxes like these. Unfortunately I don't remember where I saved this picture from, or the following one:

These candles are regular cheap white candles you can find at any dollar store. Dress them up with decorative brads or push pins stuck to them. And a cute jar with a simple tag hanging from it makes a big statement. Hot glue a ribbon around the candle or jar and Wahlah! Festive as a gift or to display in your home.

Silk Flowers vs. Real Ones

I just had a week where I spent money on two floral arrangements. One was real, and one was fake. I have always had the attitude that fake flowers were tacky, but I have to admit that over the years they have come a long way. They look so real and after all the real plants I haven't been able to keep alive, it became an alternative worth looking into.

Depending on the sales (a local craft store near me called Hobby Lobby often sells their floral stuff 50% off) and the size of the arrangement, you can create something beautiful that you never have to water and it will never die, for the same price you would pay for the real deal, especially if you are dealing with shipping costs.

Here is what I made for my kitchen table (to go on top of the table runner I stenciled last week)

After putting in rocks I added fake water and then the plants. After 8 hours the water cured and it is now helping to hold the flowers in place. I am thinking of adding another box of fake water since the one I did only covers the rocks, but you get the idea. The flowers are Alliums and Hydrangea's, and Lavender. I can't remember the name of the little white flowers.

Here are some ideas for smaller, easier versions that you could make as a gift:

So next time I am thinking about getting someone flowers, I may consider making them some instead. Of course you always need to remember to plan it around the decorating style of their home.

Also, if you don't want to make a floral arrangement, you can purchase them at any craft store but Target also sells a lot of cool ones.
